Staff Pick: Alejandro Escovedo set to visit Elizabeth’s for a fan meet-and-greet

On “Man of the World,” Alejandro Escovedo sings, “I can take a punch/I can take a swing.”

The Texas-born musician has done his fair share of both over his three-decade-plus career in music. In the early aughts he nearly died due to a bout with hepatitis C, yet he somehow pulled through, rebounding to release some of the best music of his career, including his 2006 modern classic The Boxing Mirror.

This local stop at Elizabeth’s Records is billed as a meet-and-greet, but there’s a slim chance the singer could be persuaded to perform an acoustic song or two (cough, “Rosalie,” cough). Otherwise, fans should be prepared to venture to Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville on Sunday, Feb. 23, where Escovedo will be performing alongside R.E.M.’s Peter Buck.
