Concert preview: Demi Lovato grows up gracefully

From the March 20, 2014 edition

While some of the former child star’s contemporaries have ventured into adulthood with all the grace of Amish teens approaching an extended Rumspringa (cough, Miley Cyrus, cough), Demi Lovato, who first appeared on the scene as a youngster on “Barney & Friends,” appears to be taking a slightly more serious path.

The singer’s fourth LP, Demi, arrives packed with arena-ready anthems, but songs like “Shouldn’t It Come Back,” a shattered ballad directed at her estranged father, reveal a pop star with something more to say.

Cher Lloyd and Fifth Harmony open the show.
