Roundup: Mother’s Day brunch suggestions

Attention all dawdlers and ingrates: Come May 11th, Mother’s Day will again be upon us. Along with a rich blend of love, guilt, nostalgia, empathy and resentment, Mother’s Day usually means it’s time to take that dear and undoubtedly taken-for-granted lady who gave you so much out to brunch. I MEAN IT’S THE LEAST YOU CAN DO!

Frankly, you better start calling up restaurants ASAP, because places often get booked solid well in advance. Here are some call-now! suggestions.

Natalie’s Coal-Fired Pizza

Not only does this wonderful restaurant/music club offer put-an-egg-on-it, delicious breakfast pizzas, but it’s also got great quiches, house-made cinnamon rolls and top-notch live (and free!) brunch-time music. May 11th brings in the sophisticated jazz stylings of Roger Hines and Richard Lopez, which seems pretty perfect for Mother’s Day.

Lindey’s

Treat your own grande dame to the grande dame of Columbus fine dining, and allow Lindey’s refined and casually suave, French bistro-esque ambiance to work its magic. Food-wise, Lindey’s will be offering its terrific — and large — regular brunch menu (its hollandaise-glazed, Crab and Eggs features one of the city’s best crab cakes) as well as special homemade pecan rolls.

Rigsby’s Kitchen

This artsy Short North stalwart — arguably the most versatile Top Ten restaurant in Columbus — will be offering a special Mother’s Day buffet this year. While luscious porchetta is penciled in, the rest of the buffet menu is not yet set-in-stone as of this, my-deadline-is-near, typing. Still, I’ve been told it’ll likely be similar to Rigsby’s killer Easter buffet — meaning (for about $30) you might expect chef-made versions of fried chicken, ham and lobster mac-n-cheese, plus breakfast-y fare such as biscuits and gravy.

Matt The Miller’s Tavern

The all-American Sunday buffet might be an endangered species in most parts of Columbus, but it’s alive and well at this unfussy but reliable micro-chain. On Mother’s Day, MTM’s multitudinous regular Sunday favorites — which include a made-to-order omelet station, fresh fruit bar, flatbreads table and eggs Benedicts post — will be supplemented with, among other goodies, shrimp cocktail, two special entrees, donut bites, plus a turkey and ham carving station.
