While you might not recognize the name John Colpitts, there’s a good chance you’ve encountered the drummer’s work.
In recent years, he’s toured with Spiritualized, recorded with Akron/Family and performed alongside the likes of experimental musician William Basinski, in addition to his regular gig minding the kit for arty Brooklyn rockers Oneida under his nom de rock Kid Millions.
With Man Forever, however, the drummer moves squarely into the foreground, layering together a hypnotic patchwork of syncopated beats that, on record at least, comes on like a roomful of percussionists bashing away in unison.
Try not to be swept away.
