Ben Folds has been one of the most dynamic names in music, but his new project is taking his reputation as a charismatic, multi-talented songbird to new heights.
After a long career performing with his pop group, Ben Folds Five, writing and producing albums, and acting as a judge for NBC’s “The Sing Off,” Folds is on to his next career frontier: writing an orchestral exhibition and taking it on tour to perform with some of America’s most renowned symphony orchestras.
Folds’ take on the symphonic experience is a fusion of classical style and adaptations of his hit songs, but don’t think this is just a pop concert with more girth in the background band.
The performance includes 10- to 20-minute pieces as well as a piano concerto, proving Folds really is a musical jack-of-all-trades.
Think of it as your grandfather’s symphony broken up into smaller segments, and sprinkled with some quirky vocals and covers like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
