To say Chris Hawker is an innovator is an understatement. Founder and president of Trident Design LLC in Grandview Heights, Hawker started his first business in his bedroom when he was 13 years old, breeding exotic birds. Today, he’s made his mark with a variety of everyday inventions such as the surge protector Powersquid and his most recent invention called the Quickey, which can be used for everyday tasks like opening bottles and clipping coupons. As always, these are a few of his favorite things.
Bangkok Thai Grocery & Restaurant
I went to Thailand for my honeymoon and spent several weeks there. The food at Bangkok tastes like the food in Thailand. It’s my favorite restaurant in Columbus of any sort at any level of expense because it is has phenomenal, delicious food. My favorite dishes are shrimp fried rice and crispy pork bellies with garlic sauce.
Grange Audubon Center
An amazing park, it has one of the largest freestanding rock climbing structures open to the public. They have nature trails, an amazing nature center that is free [to explore] and sand volleyball courts. It’s an amazing spot that used to be the impound block. Hard to believe it is right here, right by Downtown. I’m always shocked I don’t find more people there.
I’m obsessed with Alt-J. It reminds me a little bit of the creativity and off-beat of Beck, but it’s much more musical and easy to listen to. I go through phases where I binge on an album and I’ve been binging on Alt-J. Nothing else satisfies me these days.
We have a yoga teacher who comes to our office twice a week and teaches a class. It has been fantastic for me. The Ashtanga yoga is intense. It’s not relaxing or stretching [based]; it’s strength, balance, movement and sweat. The actual doing of it is not comfortable — it is like the opposite of drinking.
