The ComFest Statement of Principles reads, in part, “We recognize there are primary attitudes which divide and oppress people … We seek to eliminate these attitudes.”
This mindset extends to the sprawling musical lineup, which incorporates everything from ambitious prog-rock (Brujas Del Sol) to roots music (The Salty Caramels) to Prohibition-era swing (The DewDroppers), and everything in between. It’s this diversity that attracted eclectic metal crew Lo-Pan to the bill.
“We’re with metal bands on the road all the time, and it’s almost limiting in a way,” said drummer Jesse Bartz, who joins his Lo-Pan mates to close out the action on the Offramp Stage on Friday, June 27. “We seek opportunities to play for people who haven’t heard us. That’s exactly the audience we want to get out in front of.”
While many attend the yearly Goodale Park fest to people watch, catch up with old friends and drink copious amounts of booze from colored plastic mugs, the musical lineup offers a nice overview of the current local scene to those willing to dive in. Here are some of the performances we’re most looking forward to seeing.
