Concert preview: Eclectic Texas bluesman Gary Clark, Jr. refuses to reign it in on Blak and Blu

By
From the July 3, 2014 edition

Eclectic Texas bluesman Gary Clark, Jr. is a virtuoso guitarist, capable of delivering rumbling numbers that conjure images of a roadhouse brawl (“Numb,” which is far-more lively than its title would suggest) and pulling back for seductive numbers dotted with solos as smooth as satin sheets (“Things Are Changin’”).

The musician’s latest, Blak and Blu, explores these extremes and more, and his set should move in similarly unpredictable ways when he hits the stage here.
