Artist Deb Baillieul fell in love with the ocean during her childhood summers in Cape Cod. To her, the blue expanse of the sea truly embodied her definition of water, offering inspiration for the pieces included in her new exhibition “Along the Shore.” Her latest exhibit at the Cultural Arts Center incorporates mixed media interpretations of her love for all things aquatic, from dried waterbeds to Caribbean beaches and everything that surrounds them. Baillieul’s use of fabrics like silk and wool brings an element to the works as diverse as their subjects, which she attributes to her occupation as a “player.”

“I’m a huge proponent of play, so I’m always hesitant to call myself an artist,” Baillieul said. “Instead of setting out with a direction for my piece, I look for representation. If I want to draw a shell, I create its colors.”
