Concert preview: Richard Buckner’s intimate songs have a way of taking hold

On Richard Buckner’s last pass through town, the singer/songwriter performed a living room show — a fitting setting for the intimate tunes populating his latest full-length Surrounded.

While the music exudes a sense of calm, fueled by Buckner’s delicate finger-picking and his the-baby’s-sleeping-in-the-other-room vocals, the musician’s words often betray an inherent restlessness. “You just won’t lie down,” he sings on the title track. “Even closing your eyes you can’t let it go.” These songs have a similar way of taking hold.

Sean Gardner also performs.
