Hip-hop showcases appear to be the new rage. Following in the steps of Writers Block, a monthly event organized by Josh Miller and David Wade, promoter Grant Gatsby and others have introduced As We Proceed, a bi-monthly event designed to spotlight both established and upcoming local artists. The kickoff event, which takes place this weekend at Double Happiness, includes performances from a solid slate that includes Mr. 6ix, NES Wordz, Co. City, Colin Thomas with D1, and Hafrican.

In a promotional video accompanying the announcement, Gatsby noted the showcase was designed to make sure the performers are paid. “There’s too much bullshit when it comes to shows and it when it comes to locals and upcomers where artists are not only getting free shots at performing, but getting charged,” he said. “I’m trying to put an end to that.”
