Mike Rosenberg, the British singer-songwriter who records and performs as Passenger (the project started as a band and Rosenberg held onto the name following its breakup), delivers his pop-tinged ballads like would-be lullabies.
“All I need’s a whisper in a world that only shouts,” he sings on the title track of his latest, the aptly titled Whispers. Even so, intricately detailed tunes like “Riding to New York” and “Bullets” manage to make an impact even at minimal volume.
The singer, whose quivering voice conjures images of the similarly folkish David Gray, is best known for his 2012 breakout “Let Her Go,” but on his latest he sounds determined to hold onto his fast-growing audience.
The Once and Stu Larson also perform.
