The Ohio House passed a classic lame-duck-session “Christmas tree” bill last week.
House Bill 532 was introduced by Rep. Anne Gonzales, R-Westerville, to make a number of tweaks to Ohio’s Military Medal of Distinction, awarded to fallen military personnel who are residents of Ohio. It expands the ability of families of fallen military personnel to obtain the medal, and amends the categories of those who may earn the medal.
By the time the bill passed the House last week, members had hung on it a number of seemingly unrelated ornaments: merging the Ohio Medical Transportation Board with the Ohio Emergency Medical Services Board; allowing Rio Grande Community College to construct housing and dining facilities; clarifying the tax-increment financing law; and altering a water-and-sewer pilot program in Stark County.
