Indie-rockers continue to shrug off expectations

In an Alive interview last year, Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa spoke of the indie-rock band's stylistic left turn on 2016 album Heads Up, particularly dance-pop single “New Song.” “I think people are still trapped in the reality that bands sell out. … All we did was we wrote a song that was a little bit poppier than what we usually do,” she said. “Why do you have to keep playing to people's idea of who you are instead of just making music that you wanna make?” Similarly independent-minded songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield opens the show.
