Dan Melchior headlines local label's annual celebration
With local labels like Superdreamer, Heel Turn and the resurgent Anyway, it feels like a good moment for punk- and art-rock bands in Columbus. As is its custom, Superdreamer Records is throwing a Summer Party that features some of those acts. On Friday, July 7, things kick off at 6:30 p.m. at Used Kids (2500 Summit St., North Campus) with Ipps, Tommy Jay's Latest Freak Show and Tasty, and then the party moves to nearby Ace of Cups for The Pink Owl and his Supernatural Fears, Sex Tide, Mike Rep and Friends and headliner Dan Melchior.
Melchior is a natural choice to headline the party, given his long-running connection to Columbus, including releases on Columbus Discount Records and former tours with members of Necropolis and El Jesus de Magico. The prolific, England-born, onetime garage rocker has been spewing singles since his days playing guitar with Holly Golightly and Billy Childish, and his experimental catalog fits right in alongside damaged Columbus bands past and present.
