A list so Columbus you can't tell she wasn't born here

LC Johnson is a southern transplant to Ohio and the founder of Zora's List, a weekly newsletter highlighting local events, opportunities and inspiration specifically of interest to women of color in Columbus. She hosts events once a month, including a Beach Potluck Picnic for women of color happening this Saturday, July 22at Alum Creek State Park Beach. Here are some of her favorite things.

Social Justice

Social justice may seem like a crazy thing to "love," but as the director of leadership and social justice programs for the YWCA Columbus, social justice is definitely one of my passions, and I've really loved getting to know Columbus' thriving community of activists and rabble-rousers.

Weinland Park

My husband and I are in the process of building a live/work space in Weinland Park, so we'll live on the property and operate a community space for women of color called Zora's House. Weinland Park is a true mixed-income neighborhood, and we love how engaged residents are and how easy it is to get to know your neighbors.

Columbus' Craft Beer Scene

I'm a big fan of craft beer, and there are so many great breweries and craft beer bars in Columbus. Pins Mechanical is my favorite spot to grab a beer after work, but I also love Temperance Row in Westerville and am super excited about BrewDog expanding to Columbus.

Downtown Main Library

I'm a huge book nerd. I moved to Columbus while the Downtown library renovation was going on and couldn't wait for it to be finished. I love how open and airy it is, and I love Aminah Robinson's “Life in the Blackberry Patch” mural. And they always seem to have the exact books I'm looking for. I work only a few blocks away so I'm there at least once a week.

Franklin County Metro Parks

Last but not least, I am a big fan of Franklin County Metro Parks. I love how diverse they are and that I can go hiking, camping or just stroll through a garden depending on my mood. Blendon Woods and Inniswood are two of my favorites but I have a goal of exploring them all at some point.
