Canadian songwriter creates Detroit-inspired, hazy disco record

Moon King is Daniel Benjamin, a Toronto-born singer, songwriter and producer who spent time in Detroit last year, particularly in the neighborhood of Hamtramck. The surroundings inspired him to create the accurately titled Hamtramck '16, a seven-song collection of chilled-out, bedroom-pop dance tracks. Benjamin sings like Youth Lagoon's Trevor Powers and creates instrumental backdrops indebted to Giorgio Moroder. If disco is your thing, check it out. If it's not, run away. (Think twice)
