Just a month shy of 80, the Queen of Rockabilly is still going strong

It's not unusual for long-in-the-tooth country crooners to try to relive their glory days onstage. George Jones was still touring at 80 even though the Possum's baritone wasn't what it used to be. Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly who paved the way for the Cramps and countless other artists who smashed together rock 'n' roll and country music, will turn 80 next month, but she is as spunky as ever. Jackson made a believer out of me at the 2011 Nelsonville Music Festival, where she yodeled and hooted while prowling the stage with a religious vigor. (Safe bet)
