Celebrate four decades of cartoon preservation at this ambassador for comics as art

File this one under ICYMI, as CXC offers another opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at Ohio State (the museum held a formal event to mark the occasion back in the spring).

While it has changed names throughout its 40-year history, there is no discounting the Billy's contribution to both the preservation of important comic art and the increased recognition of the art form's cultural relevance. From acquisitions such as Milton Caniff to Bill Watterson to Jeff Smith, the Billy is an unmatched resource.

In case you missed it, or even if you didn't, stop by the museum early evening on Friday, Sept. 29, to meet curator Jenny Robb and browse the museum's vast collection.
