A rundown of select films currently playing in theaters

New in theaters:

“The Mountain Between Us”

Kate Winslet and Idris Elba star in this romance-disaster flick, adapted from the Charles Martin novel and directed by Hany Abu-Assad (“Paradise Now,” “Omar”). Early reviews are lukewarm, though, and you know how Stringer Bell feels about 40-degree days.

Now playing:

“Woodshock”

Kate and Laura Mulleavy's hallucinatory trip of a psychological thriller follows Theresa (Kirsten Dunst), a California marijuana dispensary worker who dishes out a spiked strain under-the-table.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”

The old world (England) meets the new (USA! USA!) in the latest installment of this action-driven spy series, which stars Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and Channing Tatum.

Alive Recommends:

“Mother!”

Fans and critics have been split on the latest from director Darren Aronofsky, but Alive critic Brad Keefe falls strongly in the “love” camp, calling it “unsettling in its weirdness.” (5 stars)
