Genre-defying rockers return with self-titled album

Formed in the wake of singer/guitarist Allen Epley's former math-rock band, Shiner, the Life and Times debuted with the shoegaze-y Suburban Hymns in 2005. With Eric Abert on bass and Moog and Chris Metcalf on drums, the band released a self-titled LP earlier this year, and on leadoff track “Killing Queens,” those wall-of-fuzz guitars remain intact as Epley wallows in his upper register for a departed lover, singing, “Now the only thing I drink about is you.” (Safe bet)
