EDM parties, elegant affairs and more ways to ring in 2018

Before you resign yourself to a New Year's Eve alone at home with a bottle of wine and a Celine Dion record — a la “Bridget Jones's Diary” — check out this roundup of just a handful of celebrations in the city.

New Year's Eve Dance Party at Skully's

1151 N. High St., Short North

Still celebrating the return of “Ladies 80s?” Revel in the old classics twice in one week — on Thursday, Dec. 28, and on Sunday, Dec. 31, as part of a special New Year's Eve bash. Dance into 2018 with help from DJs Chuckstar and Skulldogg. Although ladies don't get in free this time, the ticket price — $8 in advance and $10 at the door — is one of the cheapest you'll find for a party on the last day of the year.

Brohug at Trism

1636 N. High St., Campus

Brohug may sound like a cheesy term for male bonding displayed in a beer commercial, but it's actually the name of a Swedish DJ/producer trio of two brothers and a guy named Hugge. Brohug will bring its refreshing brand of EDM to Trism for a celebration that will extend well into the dawn of the New Year.

New Year's Eve Lock-In at Idle-A-While

6068 Channingway Blvd., Reynoldsburg

While there are plenty of opportunities to hear rock, '90s pop and EDM on New Year's Eve, finding R&B may be a bit more elusive. Luckily, Idle-A-While, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, will have plenty of the classics — with some hip-hop thrown in — courtesy of Mix Master Ice and MC Dnasti. Dress to impress and party 'til 4 a.m.

New Year's Eve concert at Ace of Cups

2619 N. High St., Old North

Do you frequently take in shows featuring local bands? There's no reason to break your habit for the holiday; in fact a slew of Ohio bands are reuniting and descending on Ace of Cups for its New Year's Eve bash: Tree of Snakes, 84 Nash, the Washington Beach Bums and the Lindsay. Make your plans quickly because, according to reports on Facebook, “all the babysitters in Clintonville are nearly gone because of this show.”

Detox at Axis

775 N. High St., Short North

Get ready to sashay the night away at Axis' annual New Year's Eve affair, featuring a special appearance by Detox from “RuPaul's Drag Race.” Come early for a meet-and-greet and stay for a long night of dancing to a mix by DJ Alan Saunders. Nina West is hosting, so you can be sure you'll be ringing in the New Year with lots of laughs.
