Opera Project Columbus presents 20th-century classic
Opera Project Columbus will present Gian Carlo Menotti's modern classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors” Friday and Sunday at the Lincoln Theatre. The 20th-century opera concerns a mother and her crippled son, the three wise men and an unexpected miracle.
The production actually premiered on television in 1951, commissioned for and produced by NBC. OPC Artistic Administrator Adam Cioffari, who directs this production, said the show has been a “perennial hit with audiences since its premiere.”
The cast features 15-year-old Claire O'Shaughnessy of Upper Arlington as Amahl and soprano Emily Holsclaw as the mother. The rest of the cast includes baritone Eric McKeever, baritone Joshua Cook and bass Tommy Petrushka as the three magi.
This fully-staged production will feature a live orchestra conducted by Alessandro Siciliani. The production will also include dancers from BalletMet Columbus, a first for OPC.
