Dance program benefits She Has a Name
In its third season, Oyo Dance Company is adding this special night to its slate of programs, a benefit event filled with dance, music and inspiration.
Oyo prides itself on being varied and flexible. It's a contemporary company, but not one that adheres to a particular style or school of choreography, instead building its repertoire around the individual strengths of its dancers, Artistic Director Rachel Nace Maynard said. Repertoire is created by local and national choreographers in a variety of styles and to varied musical selections.
Red Carpet Soiree will draw from this philosophy to benefit She Has a Name, a local organization fighting human trafficking and supporting survivors. The program will feature routines set to Academy Award-winning music, or to selections from films that have won Oscars, Board President Elizabeth Weiss said. The evening will also include ballroom dancing, live music and spoken word from a survivor of human trafficking.
