The West Side brewer will host a launch party on Saturday, July 21
For the second year in a row, Sideswipe Brewing is releasing a special beer inspired by local band MojoFlo. The MojoFlo Hoppy Amber Ale came about, in part, via proximity.
“MojoFlo is one of our neighbors in our complex,” said Craig O'Herron, owner and brewer of Sideswipe. “They practice here. We've gotten to know them over the years. They approached us about working on a beer together and playing outside of our place.”
MojoFlo is fronted by singer Amber Knicole, so the band's only request was that O'Herron brew an amber ale. He used American style hops in the beer, dry-hopping it to keep it clean and crisp, with strong aromatics. “We jazzed up and made it a hoppy amber,” O'Herron said. “It's not a traditional sort of amber by any means.”
Sideswipe will celebrate the beer release with a party at its taproom on Saturday, July 21, starting at 2 p.m. The MojoFlo Hoppy Amber will be on tap, as well as available for purchase in canned six-packs. The beer will also be distributed around greater Columbus.
MojoFlo is performing two sets, at 3:30 and 7 p.m. To round out the festivities, one of the Mikey's Late Night Slice trucks will be on hand. Mikey's also developed a collaboration with the band, the MojoFlo Funky Chicken pizza, with chicken, bacon, onion, tomato and “Hawt Mess swirl,” which will be available throughout the day.
“It's a good time,” O'Herron said. “It's one of our busier days of the year. I'm very much looking forward to it.”
Both the band and the beer will also make an appearance the day before at the Gateway University District. MojoFlo will perform as part of the Gateway's Local ‘n Live series on Friday, July 20. The free concert will feature the Sideswipe MojoFlo brew, as well as the Mikey's Funky Chicken pizza and CD102.5's ice cream truck.
