Polk Lions Club met on Tuesday, Jan. 9. President Lion Craig Wiley called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guest. Lion Tom Donley led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Candy Donley led it in the first verse of "America." Lion Sandy Welch gave the invocation. Secretary Lion John Donley read minutes of the Dec. 12, 2017 meeting.

Minutes were approved as read. Treasurer Lion Qiana Donley gave the treasury report. Motion was made and seconded to accept the treasury report. Motion passed. Wiley read several thank-you notes from families that received Christmas gift bags. He also read a thank-you note from Cassie Harper for the scholarship donation the club gave her. The guest, Lion Glen McClure, Zone 7 chairman, thanked the club for how great our it is doing with projects, but reminded club members to talk about Lions to people they meet.

He also talked about district coming events. Zone 7 Advisory Meeting will be on Feb. 21 at Polk United Methodist Church, District Convention at Castaway Bay, April 13-15, 2018, Leadership Training at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland on May 5., State Convention at Mariatt Hotel in Dublin on May 18-20, 2018. They will be voting on director, that Woody Conrad from Ashland Evening Lions is running.

Wiley thanked all that helped with packing holiday nuts, delivering Christmas gift bags, and helping at the club’s Walk Down Christmas Tree Lane. The club received a lot of good feedback on the event and hope to do it again this year. It was mentioned that the turnout was very good.

Officers and projects for next year were discussed. The club is in need of a chairperson for the calendar project. Wiley is making arrangements for meetings to go to Ashland Noon Lions and for Savannah Lions to come to one of the club’s meetings. There will be more information at the next meeting.

Upcoming events include Feb. 13 when the guest will be district Gov. Greg Hess at the Zone 7 Advisory Meeting on Feb. 21, and Feb. 27 for a possible night out for dinner with the club’s cooks invited.

Next meeting will be on Jan. 23. Members are encouraged to attend the Advisory Meeting and the regular meeting this month. Motion to adjourn was made by Nancy Welch and seconded by Ron Wiley.
