This is Crys Lappie's house. The Label Yourself designer has, of course, applied her make-old-new approach to a home that was just an abandoned building on Columbus' northeast side seven years ago. Now, she and her husband think they're ready to move on.
Her business could use more space anyway. In the five months since she launched Label Yourself, Lappie has outgrown the upstairs bedroom she uses as a studio, she said.
"It's been so incredible that I've been like, 'Wow, where do I go from here?" Lappie said. "But it's kind of like things just come to me, and it's been fantastic."

Label: Label Yourself
Web: myspace.com/cryslappie
Available at: labelyourself.etsy.com, various shows
Style: Painted designs on thrift-store finds
Her green designs turn worn favorites and thrift-store finds into updated, artsy articles featuring stenciled designs and details like funky buttons or slight alterations. Some are formal, some are fun, and no two are the same. She's working on a sixth collection, this one with urban appeal, and launched a line of men's shirts and jackets this summer.
Next, she'd like to get into needlework and working with someone to refurbish and then redesign shoes. In the meantime, watch for Label Yourself in the Short North's What the Rock?! after Thanksgiving.
