Wing & Tusk

3:20 p.m. Friday

Offramp Stage

Web: wingandtusk.com

When it comes to ambitious, literate indie rock, there's a fine line between interesting and indulgent. Wing & Tusk falls on the right side of that divide, showing us what they've got without showing off. The sextet's thoughtful chamber pop drapes tight harmonies around intricate arrangements, with lyrics that could've come from the frustrated fever dream of a recovering novelist (they cite both Charlie Kaufman and Charles Bukowski as influences - is there a better combo for a ComFest mind meld?).

Nick Tolford and Company

7:50 p.m. Friday

Offramp Stage

Web: myspace.com/nicktolford

Tolford's track record with heavy-hitting projects like The Slide Machine and Bestfriends may have been a clever diversion to shock you when you witness his new band in action and realize, your widened eyes spouting tears of joy: Whiteboy got soul! For all of Tolford's many talents - singing, songwriting and stage presence among them - his crack band ensures the frontman need not revert to a LeBron-style one-man show in crunch time. Not a Sasha Pavlovic in the bunch!

The Floorwalkers

10:10 p.m. Friday

Gazebo Stage

Web: thefloorwalkers.com

It would take a long shopping list to run down all the ingredients that make the Floorwalkers one of this town's most beloved bands. They're faithful students of the full spectrum of American music - pop, rock, jazz, soul, country, funk and whatever else strikes their fancy - and they integrate each shred of inspiration so deftly into their bitchin' brew that if you didn't see their youthful visages, you might think they had been doing this for decades.

Two Cow Garage

10:10 p.m. Friday

Bozo Stage

Web: twocowgarage.com

"In a more just universe ... Two Cow Garage would be playing the big summer festivals," Paste.com wrote earlier this week. Befitting ComFest's founding spirit, that universe will manifest on Friday, when Two Cow greets a huge, enthusiastic crowd from the main stage. Expect a set heavily peppered with songs from their latest disc, Speaking in Cursive. In other words, you'll hear some of the band's best material, especially if they pull out "Folksinger's Heart" and the dark, poppy "Skinny Legged Girl."
