Hot Times Community Art & Music Festival

When: Sept. 11-13

Where: Grounds of Columbus Department of Health, Olde Towne East

Web: hottimesfestival.com

A little sibling to Comfest, the Hot Times Community Art & Music Festival has brought a weekend-long party to the near East Side for going on 33 years. The expected highlight of the 2009 edition is a live performance by reggae star Pato Banton (pictured), but locally grown talent is at the heart of the event. Scheduled performers include Willie Phoenix, Flex Crew, Arnette Howard and Gene Walker, plus wordsmiths Is Said and Advance Party and Jazz Poetry Ensemble. Artist Aminah Robinson and musician Deighton Charlemagne will also be honored over the weekend. Anyone feeling a rush of creative juices is invited to join a poetry slam or drum circle, and if the experience leaves you hungry, there are plenty of food vendors to choose from.
