What do you like about bartending?
I like the customer interaction and just being able to talk to people. You can kind of do what you want - talk to people and hang out. It's kind of like working with my friends.
People will open up to you. They think you're, like, a mini-therapist. If they feel like they can open up to you, that means you're doing something right.
What else does it take to be a good bartender?
To me, bartending is not just opening beers. It's also getting your atmosphere right - music, lights, chairs. I'm a freak about my chairs around the bar. They have to be inviting. Wiping the bar down is huge. I hate when you sit down at the bar and get crap all over you.
What would you be doing if you weren't bartending?
I don't know. I tried the whole office thing and it wasn't for me. I just couldn't handle being on the phone for eight hours a day.
I still want to go back to school and become a nurse. I want to accomplish that.
What do you drink?
I'm a beer girl. Beer and whiskey. I like Miller High Life with a lime. It's like a non-skunky Corona.
I drink High Life. I'll have to try that.
It's good, but it violates the Man Law - you're not supposed to put fruit in your beer.
Where do you like to get a drink?
Just hole-in-the-wall bars. I don't like crazy busy atmospheres. We go to Rendezvous a lot.
What music do you listen to?
I'm pretty open, but I love country. Aerosmith is my favorite band and I love Jessica Simpson. I just adore her, I don't know why.
Do you play pool?
Not well. I've always worked at a "pool place," and I've never picked it up. When it comes to pool, I have my stages. After two beers, I'm really good, but by my third beer it's over. I suck. [laughs]
Do you have any bartending pet peeves?
The hours, sometimes. Especially weekends, because I can't go out or go to games because I have to work. Missing out on things that my friends who aren't bartenders can do is my biggest pet peeve. But it's probably my only one.
