A show titled "Best of Shadowbox" seems tailor-made for those unsure few who just want to dip their toe into the troupe's brand of sketch comedy and music. But it's also surprisingly fun for the diehard fans who gets a second chance to experience their favorite Shadowbox performances of the past year.

One of the more elaborate sketches of the night, "Dr. Mystery Meets Dr. Frankenstein," is also one of the silliest. The misadventures of the bumbling Dr. Mystery (David Whitehouse), his sidekick Vigo (Jimmy Mak) and the ditzy Fair Maiden (Katy Psenicka) get more complicated when they meet up with Dr. Frankenstein (J.T. Walker III), his monster (Matthew Hahn), a horde of zombies and a different kind of angry Village People.

The best of the best, however, is probably "Love is a Battlefield," a sketch that suggests the battle of the sexes (in this case, Mak and Amy Lay) is more than just an expression.

"Best of Shadowbox" is also a nice showcase for house band BillWho? Not only do they play around on the comedy stage - drummer The Beast proves to be a little more frilly than usual in "I Love Britney," a modern update of the old Lucy show - but guitarists Chris Lambert and Hahn prove their solo talents on Van Halen's "Eruption" and Robert Cray's "These Things," respectively.

As sung to bluesy perfection by Julie Klein, "These Things" may also be the best musical performance of the night. Other highlights include Jennifer Hahn's "I Don't Care," Mary Randle's "Girls Girls Girls" and Walker's "Jockey Full of Bourbon."
