The number three represents multiple things to 3 Boutique owners Jodi Vince and Brooke Aquino. Perhaps most importantly, it signifies unlimited potential, Vince said.

They certainly hope that's the case for the success of their shop, which opened this week.

The two East Coast natives who live on Columbus' North Side hope to diversify Powell shopping.

Friends Vince and Aquino said they have noticed an increase in boutique shopping in the area since they moved here a couple of years ago, but they sought out some niche women's clothing brands for this venture, a longtime dream of theirs.

"For me - for both of us - going into the mall and walking into Macy's is overwhelming," Aquino said. "We wanted something a little different."

So they've snagged lines from all over the world - Spain, Canada Sweden - with even more to come.

"We're going to New York again soon for a buying trip," Vince said. "We've been talking about it forever; we both love fashion."

The pink-and-green-themed shop is divided into an entry area where the newest merchandise is featured (right now, several romper designs in iridescent copper colors), and two side rooms.

One room is devoted to Spanish line Desigual - a colorful, pattern-heavy and patchwork-influenced line Vince and Aquino love - while you'll find jeans, more casual clothing and Buckeyes-themed accessories in the other.

3 Boutique carries Paige denim in all sorts of cuts and washes, including a light-olive color that's particularly fun. A second jeans line is coming soon.

Fall clothing will be delivered in the next couple of weeks. Expect to see lots more clothing from Desigual and plenty of fall/winter coats from Graham & Spencer.

Plus, there are quick pick-me-ups in the form of purses and ornate jewelry, including jewelry designs from New Jersey that feature buttons, baubles, keys and watch faces. An assortment of leather cuffs gives an alternative accessory option.

"We're trying to have a varied price range, which I really am excited about," Vince said. "If you wanted to come in and get a high-end necklace, we have those. If you wanted to get a real quick, fun ring, we have that as well."
