Cavan Irish Pub

Thanksgiving Eve has traditionally been one of the busiest bar nights of the year, so what better night for Carolyn Frey, Heather Lashaway, Matt Mefferd and Jason Medlock to open Cavan Irish Pub?

For those familiar with High Street Tavern and other previous bars at 1409 S. High St., the owners have done a complete turnaround. "It's a new elegant space on the South Side," Frey said.

Or, as patron Gina Lowry put it: "It's not your daddy's South Side bar."

If you're lucky enough to have visited an actual pub in Ireland, you'll be delighted to discover that Cavan resembles the authentic neighborhood drinking spots found there. Thirsty patrons will enjoy a great selection of import and craft beers on draft, as well as plenty of Irish whiskey.

Co-owner Matt Mefferd (with Carolyn Frey) said the bar is "named after the county in Ireland where my family is from."
