Lunch Break Links

urbandictionary.com/daily.php
My colleague John Ross passes along this tip: Urban Dictionary, the user-submitted archive of slang words and phrases, offers a word of the day. Check back daily to learn about diction like "whoadie" (a friend from the same neighborhood), "fap" (a very special kind of onomatopoeia) and "fauxbia" (a fake fear). If you think you know what's up, you can give each term a thumbs-up or thumbs-down for accuracy. You can even sign up to have the word delivered to your inbox.
jonhuck.com/breakfast
USA Today's Pop Candy blog directed readers last week to this site, where photographer Jon Huck presents a gallery of portraits alongside shots of the subjects' breakfast. The result is a fascinating work of art, a strange sort of mosaic that reminds us just how many different ways you can partake in the most important meal of the day. Huck has another cool project called "Couples" available for viewing at his site's main page.
tvshowsondvd.com
As an avid watcher of TV shows on DVD, I could spend a long time on this site, which lists tons of available titles, posts a schedule of upcoming releases and, after a quick and painless registration, allows users to vote on which shows they'd like to see released on disc. I bet you didn't know you could get Season 4 of Are You Afraid of the Dark? starting this November. And if you want to see its SNICK companion Roundhouse released on DVD (does anyone besides me remember that show?), this is the place to petition for it.

rottenneighbor.com
My sage cubicle neighbor Nikki Davis linked me to this site, still in beta testing. RottenNeighbor.com boasts, "We are the first real estate search engine of its kind that helps you find bad neighbors before you move so you don't regret the purchase of your new house, home, condo or apartment." By entering your zip code, you'll be directed to a user-submitted directory of some of the city's least desirable neighbors. Because the site doesn't give very specific address information, it's not that helpful, at least not yet. But it's a welcome addition to the large library of entertaining online voyeurism options.
