"The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most," Dashboard Confessional
This album bridged the gap between the poppy acoustic music I listened to growing up and the punk rock I was listening to in college. The blend of great lyrics, acoustic guitars and lots of heart makes this a great one to scream along to in the car on long road trips.
"Either/Or," Elliott Smith
It took me two years after seeing Good Will Hunting to figure out who created the sounds on the film. The soundtrack is the best part of the flick. Once I bought this disc, it was a mainstay in my stereo. I love listening to this album on headphones to hear the haunting chorus effect on Smith's unmistakable voice.
Brian Frank is the lead singer for the rock band Fatkid Dodgeball. They'll play a CD release show for their latest album, Burn It Down, Friday at the Newport.
"August and Everything After," Counting Crows
This album's sound reminds me of my freshman year of college at OSU. I listened to "Raining In Baltimore" every time it rained for, like, five years — it's probably my all-time favorite song. To me, this album sounds like Ohio.
"Enema of the State," Blink 182
Blink 182 may not get much punk-rock cred, but this album opened my ears to the genre. This was the soundtrack to my Panama City spring break trip. The hooks on Enema cannot be ignored, and the album was extremely influential in my progression as a musician. The harmonies and choruses still influence my songwriting today.

"Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy," The Refreshments
This one is kind of random. I've always been an album guy, so I bought it after hearing the single on the radio. I played this album front to back so many times I had to buy a new one. Much of the music today is either angry or sad, so fun and energetic rock is refreshing to me.
