If you enjoy singing, consider joining the Ravenna Community Choir, under the direction of Jan Harcar. The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 170 N. Freedom St., Ravenna.
They are taking in new members for Summer Session until April 19 and getting ready for their Summer Concert on June 10.
The choir has three concerts a year, all held at the Ravenna Assembly of God.
If you attended the Spring Concert in March, you know they are outstanding!
Jim and Bonnie Salamon of Ravenna were busy over the Christmas holidays entertaining family from out of state.
Flying in from Arizona were grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Justin and Sarah Salamon with children, Lily, Micah and Audrey, and Ives and husband Dustin and son Brian. They celebrated Brian’s first birthday on Christmas Day.
Coming from Michigan were grandsons Joe and Matt. Also coming from Michigan were son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Courtney Salamon, Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa of all of the above.
Rounding out the family were sons Scott Salamon of Ravenna and Blake Salamon of Portland, Ore. Unable to come were daughter-in-law, Laura Salamon, and grandchildren, J.J. and Chris.
They all enjoyed going on a hay ride in the snow around the Salamon Farm (temperature was 2 degrees).
The wagon was filled with excessive amounts of loose hay and many, many blankets to keep everyone warm.
It was decided by everyone that this should be done again in the summer when the weather is nicer and warmer.
The house was filled with lots of Christmas spirit and love.
Bonnie recently returned home from visiting her grandchildren in Arizona with daughter-in-law Courtney Salamon from Michigan. Bonnie reported it was nice seeing everyone again and enjoying the clear blue skies and sunshine every day.
George Furrer was recently honored on his 90th birthday by some of his family members and fellow volunteers when a cake was delivered to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna by his daughter.
George has been volunteering for about eight years at the hospital. In addition to his service there, he has volunteered for many years at the Center of Hope in Ravenna.
He is the proud father of four daughters and two sons, grandfather of 14, and great-grandfather of nine. Happy belated, George!
I recently had lunch with Jim Klohn (Holiday Sands) and his daughter, Cindy Svoboda.
It was great hearing news about all the kids and grandkids. I go back a long way with this family so I really enjoyed my visit with them.
Jim is living in Stow now and visits Ravenna not nearly enough. I’m sure everyone remembers Holiday Sands Beach Club — what fun times and lots of memories. I still miss it.
The Christian Women’s Fellowship will be welcoming "President Theodore Roosevelt" at 7 p.m. April 18 at the First Christian Church on Prospect Street in Ravenna.
Ted Dudra will present a first-person presentation of the war hero, explorer, naturalist and the 26th president of the our country.
Ted is a retired science teacher and is involved with numerous historical organizations. He also re-enacts in four different wars, Revolutionary, War of 1812, Civil War and World War II.
I have heard his presentation and really enjoyed it. This is open to the public, so make plans to attend if you can.
