Sugar Maple Inn was the setting for the monthly Beta Sorosis meeting and the luncheon was enjoyed by 18 members and the guest speaker, Janet Dix. After lunch, President Angie Reedy introduced Mrs. Dix, who spoke on behalf of "Women for Women, Ohio," a philanthropic organization that has taken the college education of young women in Cambodia as their objective.

During the reign of terror inflicted on three generations of educated Cambodians by the leader Pol Pot, the 1975-1979 genocide, 1 ½ to 3 million people were killed.

While boys are being educated now, the education of girls is not deemed necessary. Some of these girls are saved and schooled by other organizations, so Women for Women, Ohio is paying scholarships to Phnom Penh University to educate women as accountants, midwives, economists and others to start rebuilding the society. There is a website Women for Women, Ohio that tells more and accepts donations.

Margaret Courtney recommended participating in the Neil Mann match challenge for Center of Hope donations. The group will give $100 this year.

Ann Polichene and Barbara reported that they will have a new speaker for their program, Peggy Di Paola will speak about historical Ravenna.

Pam Fleishman announced that the Center of Hope donation for June is body soap, in bars or bottles.

The next meeting will be held on June 19.
