This year is the sixth year since Main Street merchant Susan Lapham came up with the idea of adorning the downtown period street lights with baskets of flowers each summer. The street lights also sport an American Flag, a decades old project conceived and managed for years by the former Irene Cowgill, "The Flag Lady."
The first year there were four baskets, increasing to 24, 42 and finally 50, the number of baskets the Chamber of Commerce now posts along Main Street from Broadway to Arch and Chestnut from South to Church streets.
Basket donors consist of businesses, organizations, individuals and groups of individuals who band together for the $250 contribution. A complete list of donors will publish in the Enterprise shortly.
The flower baskets are planted and maintained for the chamber by the Fruits of Life Greenhouses located on Pigeon Point Road.
Chamber Office Manger Jill Stephen said 48 of the baskets are currently supported. The Chamber is looking for sponsors for the remaining two. Please Contact Stephen at email@example.com, 740-425-4300 or 740-425-1048 (f), for more information on this opportunity.
