I've been talking with friends about the recent wave of anti-pot ads popping up on television: bizarre lo-fi spots featuring hand-drawn stick figures toking joints.
While they can't possibly influence the demographic now faced with diffuclt decisions regarding drugs, the spots are much more tolerable (and accurate) than those linking marijuana with adolescent gun deaths.
See them [here] and [here].
Slate has a good review of them here.
Personally, I'd like to see government dollars go to causes other than thwarting a youngster's first toke. But those are my politics, and I'll leave them out of this post. (For now.)
Instead, here's another spot that might do the trick...
Voiceover: "Sure, you're friends think smoking pot is cool. Little do they know that if you smoke pot, you might one day be friends with this person."
