Driving 7 hrs. to D.C.
And road food options are limited.
Pulling over for gas in unfamiliar little exit-ramp towns
Doesn't always promise tasty choices.
Hogfather's Pulled Pork Sandwich ($7) in Washington PA (comes with jalapeno rings and onion straws on it) is good and safe and it liberates you from locally strange or faceless corporate highway cuisine
I serendipitously discovered this friendly (they always open doors for customers) and very clean place during a gas-up once. It's easily accessible from the highway and as quick and cheap as fast food but miles better.
