Tomato Basil Soup
Cafe Brioso, Downtown
Smells of roasted coffee brought me into Brioso - and this soup ($4 for a bowl, $3 for a cup) kept me coming back. Its thick, creamy base engulfs giant chunks of tomato, celery and onion, while aromas of fragrant basil rise with the steam.
Homemade Ve getable Soup
Jack's Diner, Downtown
The diner's trademark soup ($3.20 for a bowl, $2.45 for a cup) features your favorite garden staples simmered in a thin, flavorful broth kissed by salt and oregano. Of all the city's numerous soups, this one tastes most like the stuff my mom prepared after I'd come in from building a snowman.
Spicy Tortilla Soup
Whole World Natural Bakery and Restaurant, Clintonville
Because the food is made by hand in small batches, soups and specials change daily at this cozy vegetarian spot. However, a regular offering is this hearty blend of corn, beans and tomato broth that bears a generous topping of cheese and a distinct Southwestern kick. It costs $4.50for a bowl or $3.25 for acup.
