LOUDONVILLE — An open house will be held this Saturday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mohican area's newest event and wedding center, White Pine Grove, located at 996 County Road 3295 (Pine Run Road), Perrysville.

Owners David and Kathy Laub, who refer to themselves as New York State refugees, have been working on creating an event center since they acquired the old Bit and Bridle Horse Livery property eight years ago.

David, a carpenter, and Kathy, a physical therapist who provides services to several nursing homes in the area, moved from the Syracuse, N.Y., area, and purchased the Bit and Bridle property, which had been vacant for four years, in 2010.

"We liked the area because it was similar to our New York homes in the Finger Lakes area," Kathy said. "We looked here because David had extended family in not far away Galion."

While both work their regular jobs, they gradually developed what had been a horse barn at the stables into a beautiful wedding and event venue, replacing old metal walls of what essentially was a pole building with attractive-rustic wood siding, raising the roof line and installing attractive Amish-made wooden beams in the interior and installing air conditioning.

"The fact that the center has both heat and A/C makes this different than most barn wedding venues," Kathy said.

"We got the idea of making this a wedding venue after attending three weddings over a short span a few years ago," she added. " ‘This would make a perfect place for a wedding,’ we thought."

As a wedding location, services can be conducted both outside or inside, and there is space for tents outside for larger occasions.

"To date we have hosted three weddings here, including one with over 200 people attending," she said."We have also hosted wedding showers and one charity event."

"With the upcoming open house, we are entering a new phase of our business where we are actively marketing the facility for events," she said.

White Pine Grove is located about eight miles southwest of Loudonville on County Road 3275 (Pine Run Road), or 10 miles east of Butler, off Ohio 97 and McCurdy Road.
