As always, there are lots of local music options this weekend. But this week's choice is easy. RJD2's band of Columbus all-stars will be making only one local appearance, and it's tonight at the Wexner Center. This show is also the band's debut performance, so it's the first chance anyone will have to see what these four can do.
As my preview mentioned, tonight will not be the average RJD2 show. The new The Third Hand, out this week on XL Recordings, is a sharp change from the instrumental hip-hop of the past. Instead, the album offers an off-the-wall take on funky soft rock. RJ hasn't completely retired the turntables, though, so look for flashes of the past when the decks come out. The band will also play some of RJ's older songs, so I wonder which treatment "The Horror" will get.
Tonight we shall see. Happy Chichester and Busdriver with AntiMC open.
