G.A. Benton gave a serious shout-out today to a tasty mouthful that also happens to be one of my favorites: Tip Top's incomparable Pot Roast Sandwich.

Since the Downtown eatery opened this summer I've eaten more than my share of these juicy delicacies (always washed down with a whiskey cocktail and chased with a slice of pie, as is the custom at Tip Top).

I've also been arguing that the Pot Roast Sandwich is Columbus' strongest contender for inclusion in the pantheon of workingman's beefy treats. Until now, we haven't contributed to America's proud tradition of regional specialties -- the Philly cheesesteak, Buffalo's beef on weck, Chicago's Italian beef and L.A.'s French dip -- probably because we don't have the industrial and immigrant heritage that gave rise to these cheap, hearty eats.

Well, better late than never. Beef on Weck, meet Columbus' Pot Roast on Pretzel Roll, your new cousin in the Hall of Meat Masterpieces.
