Columbus radio stations are playing musical chairs today.
First, 1460 The Fan moved its sports talk programming to 97.1 on the FM dial, replacing the modern hits format that had been broadcasting as Mix 97.1. The Dispatch has a story on this transition, which leaves several Mix employees out of work. (Note: Both stations, as well as The Dispatch and Alive, are owned by The Dispatch Printing Company.) The new FM version of The Fan is online at 971thefan.com.
The former 97.1 DJs may not be out of work for long; hours after Mix 97.1 went up in smoke, Saga Communications' B107.9 dropped its oldies format in favor of the "80s, 90s, Now!" playlist that had characterized 97.1. The new Mix 107.9 is already streaming online at the old B1079.com site. Oldies fans: Looks like you're out of luck!
One more radio note: Longstanding talk station 1230 AM switched to an all-sports format yesterday, expanding on an athletics lineup that already included Jim Rome's talk show, Cincinnati Reds baseball and MAC basketball.
