Apparently way back in 2006 Russell Crowe asked musician/screenwriter/novelist/badass Nick Cave to pen a sequel to Gladiator, and Cave obliged with what Rolling Stone calls a "supernatural, century-spanning" screenplay that cast Crowe's Maximus as a reincarnated immortal freedom fighter. Per The Guardian, Maximus even pops up in the Pentagon at the film's conclusion. The film studio has long since rejected Cave's script, but it recently leaked. Here's a synopsis.
