I'm not really into Reverend Horton Heat, but his show at the Newport, 1722 N. High St., is the most promising live music option tonight. On the plus side, Backyard Tire Fire is opening, and they make the whole honky tonk thing palettable for me in a way few bands can. The Anderson brothers seem to have sort of a Jay Farrar-Jeff Tweedy thing going on, though it's more like Son Volt songs and Wilco songs soldered together than Uncle Tupelo. (Also, neither brother has a voice quite as distinctive and hair-raising as Farrar.) The point is, it would be worth getting there early to see the opener tonight. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets cost $15.
