Annuals is a band of youths from North Carolina whose sophomore LP, Such Fun, won them praise in my preview of tonight's show at The Basement, 391 Neil Ave. I called the new stuff "warmer, richer and more nuanced" than their blog-hyped debut, Be He Me. It's no surprise they grew by leaps and bounds between albums they coughed up at least three EPs in the interim, allowing them to work out the kinks in whatever new directions they desired. Annuals will be playing second tonight, after local openers Afortiori and headliners Company of Thieves, who I likened to a lesser version of female-fronted Canadian guitar-pop favorites Land of Talk. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets cost $12.
