Tonight's concert schedule makes me feel like I'm reliving the tail end of my teenage years, when NYC bands were getting hype for adding a pop sheen to some of underground rock's most influential forces — Joy Division, The Velvet Underground, etc. Only these new bands are aping the ones from my adolescence, and things are only getting glossier.
Read my Staff Pick to learn more about Hypernova, the Interpol-esque Persians who'll headline Skully's, 1151 N. High St., tonight. Rustmoth is also on the bill. This will be early — doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 — and free.
Also, Provo, Utah's Strokes-loving upstarts Neon Trees will headline a CD101 Low Dough Show at Newport Music Hall, 1722 N. High St., with Paper Tongues and Civil Twilight. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets of course cost $5.
