Liang's reign begins this summer.

Effective this July, renowned choreographer Edwaard Liang will take over as BalletMet Columbus' artistic director.

The Taiwan-born and California-raised Liang has danced with New York City Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater and has created work for the Bolshoi Ballet, Houston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Kirov Ballet, New York City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Shanghai Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre and Washington Ballet. He was also a member of the Tony Award winning Broadway production of "Fosse," which PBS has televised nationally on its Great Performances Dance in America series.

Liang's new role was formerly held by Gerard Charles, who became BalletMet's artistic director in 2001. Charles left last July for Chicago's Joffrey Ballet to be its Ballet Master.
